Thank you for listening to Jay of the Dead’sNew Horror Movies, The Gold Standard of Horror Movie Podcasts.
I loved the Kagen segment. So cool to hear all the Heretickling of the ivories! I love all of the music from The Shining! I’m a music major nerd who loves chromatic music, and appreciates the heady stuff. The music choices in that film are probably why it’s also my favorite horror movie. I was the one who asked about the Dies Irae. Also, I don’t find it boring in its use here. I look forward to hearing it every time I start the film and cruise through the mountains in that helicopter shot. Though I absolutely see what you mean about things getting overused and then just getting watered down for shear usage overload! I remember in the 90s, there was a particular piece of music that was used in soooooo many trailers, which had the same effect on my ears. I liked it until it was everywhere. I’m specifically thinking of the really awesome theme music from Terminator 2. All of a sudden it was licensed out to a bunch of trailers. They take someone else’s successful theme and run with it out of context for their own thing.
I am excited for a The Shining deep dive in the future. Thanks for this awesome episode!
Thanks Mack for the amazing prey bluray.
Can anyone guess what shape I saw in “Heretic”?
The statue is Pazuzu from The Exorcist.
Thanks for having me on this episode! I think in this one segment I must’ve alienated and offended at least half the horror fan base. “I learned it by watching you Jay!”
We’ll figure out the mics for the mouth breathing situation next time. I sounded like Jackie Vernon trying to carry a whore to the microwave.
I love when Kagan said there is one hill I’ll die on. I then expected him to say something controversial and he drops the donut cutters. Hahaha. His lead up to it was so serious that I died laughing. That was genius.
Haha, priorities right?! #StopDonutCutting
The term “rescheduled” is brilliant! Well done, Jay!
#RescheduleKagan
Kagan’s segment with Jay (live at the piano!) was an absolute blast! It was especially neat when The Vampire Lestat (my favorite vampire in all of literature) showed up to drop some melodies. Anyway, the beautiful chaos of this portion of the episode was so much fun. I could have listened for hours more.
Just to clarify something Jay said… I do not currently own polar bear slippers, but maybe one fine day, I shall! I’m curious about Kagan’s segment idea for us to cover. We’ll have to make this happen in the near future, my friend. And lastly… regarding my placement on this Reasonable List… I’ll take what I can get! Much love, everyone.
-Wat
I don’t want to sound like Quentin Tarantino here, but what’s your shoe size? I think Jay owes you some Polar Bear slippers for Christmas.
I DO want to sound like Mr. Tarantino when I say 9 1/2 gets the job done. Toes perfectly descending from biggest to smallest. I could be a foot model! Oil me up! It’s that good!
Now… to Jay: What’s a G gotta do to get polar bear slippers from Daddy?
And to Kagan… you are part of MY team for the best of 2024. Get effing ready!
I wish I could post a meme of Watson sporting polar bear slippers here haha
While chatting about Thanksgiving movies liove that Jay brought up Krisha. No one ever talks about this disturbing character study on a Krisha visiting family for Thanksgiving. The preparation of the Thanksgiving dinner in that movie is horror in itself
Haha. Thanks Jay n Mac. 1261 is my prison number. Just adress package to Missouri state pen inmate 1261. That would be appreciated so othe inmates won’t tamper with packages thanks yall. Great segment and great athedral short
