(Trigger warning: Sacred cows will probably be tipped.) Last, but not least, we bring you a review picked from the John Kenneth Muir book, “Horror Films of the 1990s,” including a rousing review of John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998). And that’s enough.

Thank you for listening to Jay of the Dead’sNew Horror Movies, The Gold Standard of Horror Movie Podcasts.
The tagline for the new episode killed me, and was even better spoken.
Following up on “The Mummy”. Dr. Walking Dead’s comments on the politics he saw in the film are more real than he imagines. The UK’s Unilateral Declaration of Egyptian Independence is 1922, same year as the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, looks like there was some friction between the countries in the excavation of the site. I agree with Dr. Walking Dead that the mummy is not a zombie, totally different monster with a different mythology.
I want to add that Egypt did release artifacts from the Tutankhamun excavation for a world museum tour in the 1960s-1970s. It made its way to the United States in the ’70s, and we get to have Steve Martin’s “King Tut” song on SNL!
Enjoyed the Mummy segment, but I obviously disagree with the low scores. I remember with “The Mummy” 1932 Universal was trying to cash in on the Egypt-mania that had been going on at the time. It started with the discovery of King Tut’s tomb back in 1922 and sustained through the decade as the tomb was excavated.
