Another outstanding episode. I particularly love the concept with what amounts to a film commentary. I’m loving how Jay keeps new ideas to keep the show fresh.

Great episode idea! I’m listening/watching as planned on the anniversary!

Jay, just a thought, Franklin could simply be going by his last name. I’ve met a few people who just go by their last name.

Canonically, the character’s name is Franklin Hardesty. I haven’t seen the interview in question, but I’ve heard anecdotally that in an interview with some of the filmmakers, it was stated that he was named after his grandfather’s family name.

Okay, so two things…

First, I was born the same year and same month as Hooper’s masterpiece. So, Jay – when you break it down to the days, you’re inadvertently making me feel my age, brother. 🤣

Secondly, in early 1984, my family moved to a suburb on the north side of Austin, Texas. During our first time riding around the town, our tour guide drove us up a little county road and pointed out a lonely and slightly rundown old house. “You see that?” he asked. “That’s the old Texas Chain Saw Massacre house.” (It wouldn’t be until many years later that I found independent verification that proved the claims to be true.)

So during my formative years, that was the stuff of legend. We’d ride our bikes past it during the daytime and wonder what lurked behind the windows. A little older, especially on nights like Halloween, we’d sneak up there, daring ourselves to see just how close we could get.

Years later, the house itself would be moved and the area would be developed – the hill it sat on leveled, freeways and toll roads carving through the land, and offices and apartment buildings sprang up like mushrooms, seemingly overnight.

But for my younger self, and forever in my mind – that old imposing house sat there and still looms large.
