Welcome to the epic fifth episode of Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies! Apologies for the delay in release, but this baby is about 5 hours and 24 minutes of pure Horror podcasting power, so it took a little extra time. Here in Episode 005, Jay of the Dead is joined by his all-star Dream Team that (so far) includes Dave “Dr. Shock” Becker, The Gillman Joel Robertson, Mister Watson, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop and GregaMortis! Your six late-night Horror hosts bring you reviews of new Horror movie releases from 2022, six Horror-themed Specialty Segments, and a couple of group Feature Reviews, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) and Brian De Palma’s The Fury (1978)! As for our other 2022 Horror releases, we’ve got reviews of The Cursed (2022), No Exit (2022), Studio 666 (2022), The Ledge (2022) and Hellbender (2022). We’ve also got some entertaining reviews of some older films that still might be new to you, and those are 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957), The Ring (2002), Deathdream (1974), Inside (2007), and the Killer Baboon movie, Shakma (1990).
And just to tease a couple of our Specialty Segments, we’ve got Mister Watson’s Top 5 Horror Movie Surprise Endings, as well as Dr. Shock’s segment about The Final Resting Places of Celebrities (and how they all weren’t quite as final as their families had hoped). Of course, we have some prize winner announcements and some new contests! We also get a great voicemail from Jay’s boy, “Spawn of the Dead.” #ProudPapa And your favorite, late-night Horror hosts discuss topics like Third-Act Horror Movies, Japanese water ghosts, the magnificent artistry of Master Monster Maker Ray Harryhausen, how Netflix is getting all of us “Shakma-levels-of-pissed-off” for not releasing their Horror films (like TCM) on physical media, and of course, saggy boobs. (We have to include something to keep Dr. Shock from getting bored.) This episode is dedicated to “The Grey Man” Greg Bensch.

Thank you for listening to Jay of the Dead’s New Horror Movies, The Gold Standard of Horror Movie Podcasts.
Sorry guys – late to the party here…What is the deal with all the Texas Chainsaw requel or whatever we’re calling it love? I really tried to like it, but it’s just…bad. Unlike Halloween 2018 which felt respectful of the source material and tried to recapture some of the original’s elements, TCM felt like a slap in the face to Tobe Hooper’s classic. Being a good and not great parent, I watched it with my 2 (adolescent) kids. They thought it sucked too.How on earth are you all rating this so high??
This new GregaMortis segment is absolutely superior! I have a few monsters on the mantel myself. I’m looking forward to future episodes from the great Mr. Mortis.
It’s an excellent segment, for sure.
Hello Kaiju Nick, Thank You for your comment and for listening to this episode. I am glad you are enjoying monsters on the mantle. I am having so much fun going back and watching these films. If you have any monsters you feel I should add to my mantle I would love to hear your suggestions.
Hey, Gregamortis,
Is classic TV worthy of your mantle? It sure is for mine! So many classic monsters:
Star Trek—’The Man Trap’, ‘Arena’
The Outer Limits–‘Demon with a Glass Hand’, ‘Nightmare’
The Twilight Zone—the obvious episodes we all know and love, but please don’t forget ‘The Invaders’, Season 2 Episode 15.
Doctor Who–‘Genesis of the Daleks’, ‘The Seeds of Doom’, ‘Horror of Fang Rock’ (all Tom Baker episodes, my favorite Doctor!)
Hey Kaiju, I could definitely see adding some tv characters to the mantle. There are some good ones from the twilight zone for sure. It has been so long since I seen any Star Trek or Dr Who, I would need to revisit some of these episodes. Thank you for the suggestions. Will check them out.
Your labor will be rewarded ten-fold, GregaMortis.
Hey, Gregamortis, you guys ought to check out ‘Earth vs the Flying Saucers’. It’s the greatest alien invasion ever filmed! I think you guys will enjoy it very much!
We’re always looking back on Ray Harryhausen–he’s our guy!!.
I haven’t seen that movie in several years. Will check it out. I remember the alien being cool though
The aliens are certainly cool, but it’s Ray’s animation of the saucers that really make this film so memorable. They are the best flying saucers in film history! The ‘Mars Attacks’ saucers are modeled after Ray’s design.
I honestly don’t recall the saucers but I will rectify that this weekend. So excited to see this movie again. Thank you so much for the recommendation!!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre was not dull, but it was very stupid and it’s so odd that none of the sequels have ever even tried to feel like the original in any way.
And why is that the only bus ever that doesn’t have an emergency exit?
I’ve noticed that about the TCM franchise as well!
Great episode! Jay’s It Could Happen to You had me feeling ill. And I always thought Shakma was kinda like that Tom Hanks movie Mazes and Monsters with a crazy baboon thrown in.
True crime genuinely freaks me out, so Jay’s segment is haunting for certain!
wow, great episode! Thanks for all the awesome content.
Thank YOU for listening, my friend!
Forget the $10 a person–it’s 84.3 licks!
You’re welcome.
Listening now…what about side & saggy?
I’m more of a leg guy, myself, so… we need Dave’s input on this one, I think. LOL!
